Juanita has thrown daytime Pride parties here (previously called Jones) for years and last year raised $80,000 for TRUTH (TransyoUTH), a joint program between Transgender Law Center and GSA Network.
“I grew up in the East Bay and I’ve been in San Francisco pretty much all my adult life,” Juanita said. “I came out here as a kid and I love it. I’ve always been interested in food, I was interested in food as a little tiny kid standing on a chair next to a stove. That’s what I love to do. Food and working in kitchens is all I’ve really done in my life, so now I’ve sort of married my two favorite artistic things and it’s a great marriage.”
If you’re coming here for Sunday brunch, Juanita suggests starting with Biscuit Island (a petite buttermilk biscuit with Humphry Slocombe Tahitian vanilla ice cream and warm fruit) for the table to share as a starter.
Her namesake MORE!burger is a half-pound beauty which arrives with a steak knife already stabbed into it for your convenience. Next time, I’d like to try her Mexico City-inspired chilaquiles torta, but would also very much like to eat this burger again, too.
We also had to try the cocktail called The Juanita MORE! — it matches San Francisco summertime (aka right now).
Drag performances start at noon on Sundays and run every half hour, so get those tips ready.
MORE!jones also hosts a weekly changing special $35 prix fixe Family Dinner each Wednesday night, which Juanita says has been “super popular and super cute.” Thanks for keeping San Francisco fun, Ms. MORE!
