Restaurateur and Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto debuted Morimoto Asia Napa, his second restaurant on Napa’s Main Street, with a VIP grand opening party on Nov. 5. Unlike Morimoto Napa, the new restaurant offers dim sum and family style Chinese entrees, but diners can order sushi rolls and sake at both establishments.

When we arrived at the party, I was surprised and amused to see two giant statues of Morimoto on either side of the entrance. Inside, the real Morimoto was taking pictures with people and lobbing brightly-wrapped popcorn balls at guests.

Here are a few images from the event as well as some press photos by Kentaro Terra that show what the restaurant looks like when all the tables are in place.

Since the original Morimoto Napa is just a few doors down, I think it would be fun to visit both restaurants in the same evening — even if just for a pre- or post-dinner drink at one.
